More About Us
Developmental Enterprises Corporation was founded in 1971 by a group of parents with intellectually and developmentally disabled children. Knowing there were few opportunities for their children as adults to enrich and better their lives, or contribute to the communities in which they live, they set about to create an organization where passion, training and vision would make a positive difference in the lives of their children, and for other developmentally and intellectually disabled men and women.
Since then, DEC has grown to be one of the largest providers of vocational and habilitative services for thousands of developmentally and intellectually disabled individuals in Montgomery County. Currently, DEC is working on a reduced Covid schedule, and employs approximately 100 caring and dedicated employees that work in 4 of our day program centers, 7 community homes and some are still out and about in the community offering Supported Living and Employment Services for approximately 250 individuals in total.
We believe the individuals we serve have the right to live “everyday lives” – lives in which they make their own decisions, have friends and social interaction, and contribute to society. DEC focuses on the abilities and competencies of the individuals rather than their limitations. We promote dignity, self-determination and independence through a combination of individually tailored habilitative therapies, life skills training, job training and employment services, therapeutic and enrichment services, and community integration.
We are DEC…where passion, training and vision make a positive difference.
We’ve adapted in new ways to the new world, teaching social distancing and virtual living to our individuals. They’re learning new job skills and tips for staying healthy while we stay indoors and do our virtual learning and can’t wait to get back out and volunteer in the community again.
Thank goodness for the production work that we can do! The folks love earning a paycheck!
