More About Us
Open Hearth is really about one thing: changing lives for the better, through our effective programs, services and partnerships.
Our work includes helping people end the cycle of homelessness and achieve financial self-sufficiency. Through our own direct provision of services, as well as an established network of other nonprofits, we support and empower people as they acquire affordable housing, a means of transportation and financial viability.
Those we serve value the level of care they receive from our staff and find the services we offer essential for making the journey to stability possible. Those served include at-risk populations, low-income households, people with disabilities, single parents, the elderly, and individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
Our accomplishments over the past year have ranged from serving families who are experiencing homelessness to those who we’ve helped reach their goal of first-time home ownership. In 2018, we assisted over 500 families and individuals! Through our housing programs we provided permanent housing, helped other families avoid eviction, and supported others who recently became housed maintain that housing. Eleven participants in our Family Savings Plan reached their savings goals of attending college or purchasing a car or first home. We also offered personalized financial counseling and goal planning at no cost to the majority of our 500 participants. Additionally, we provided job search assistance that was crucial in helping dozens find employment or training.
Our community building efforts include administering the Phoenixville Area Resource Network for 12 years. This monthly drop-in meeting is attended by an average of 30 local social service agencies and interested community members. Presentations are provided on topics relevant to the nonprofit sector, while also serving as a community forum to share agency news and updates.
Open Hearth also supports Decade to Doorways, Chester County’s 10-year plan to end homelessness. Working together, we believe it’s possible to make homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring in our community!
Open Hearth has been a consistent and reliable problem solver and remains committed to support the most vulnerable of our community at every stage of their journey!
