More About Us

The STRIVE Initiative (Strengthening Tomorrow Requires Initiative & Vision Everyday), a non-profit 501(c)(3) based in Pottstown, PA, was founded by two local residents that are a testament to the power of community connection and defied the odds! The STRIVE Initiative serves as a conduit, linking neighbors, teachers, students, adult community members, and local youth through our flagship program Created For Greatness and several other initiatives:

Adolescents and young adults living in economically distressed communities often face overwhelming challenges related to crime, family destabilization, food insecurity, and limited preventative and mental health resources, all culminating to negatively impact their education and ultimately, their future. However, there is hope. Research indicates that these negative environmental challenges are buffered when youth build meaningful connections to people and institutions in their communities.

We envision an authentic and thriving community in which adults and youth have the power and voice to fulfill the dreams they have for themselves and their communities.

STRIVE’s Impact:
-25 students matched in 2020
-25 adults mentors matched in 2020
-Pilot tutoring program launched during Covid-19
-Holiday Family donations 2020: $7500.00

STRIVE’s response to Covid -19: During Covid-19, students were suddenly thrust from school into certain educational territory. Unsurprisingly, students from lower socio-economic backgrounds and BIPOC families were, statistically speaking, more affected by the pandemic disruption to education. STRIVE Initiative is a nonprofit committed to lifting middle school students from these demographics. Despite face-to-face challenges, STRIVE successfully launched a pilot program for tutoring and continued to visit 12 students and their families during COVID stay-at-home order. STRIVE continues to mentor and monitor our current students in the program and we have returned back to the Pottstown Middle School in full force to connect new students with community adults.

Testimonials

Program Testimonials:

My mentor is caring and sweet. She guides me through a lot of things in life, like troubles with people or family stuff. – Student/mentee

My mentor is kind , honest and she buys me things, but she doesn’t have to do that, but does it anyway. She is someone I can talk to about things that I may not talk to my parents about. – Student/mentee

You are a great mentor, dependable with a great heart. I appreciate all you do to reach out and keep my son on track. – Parent of student/mentee

This program has connected me with a student I probably would have never met or discovered in passing. The ideal of bringing mentoring to to students is genuine and genius. Students who have hopes, dreams and goals, but don’t know how to attain them or who reach out to help them reach their dreams and goals. – Community Mentor

I am so grateful to have Mr. Franey working with us whenever his work schedule permits. He is so positive and cares so much about the community. Having him in class enables us to play games and interact with each other in ways we couldn’t without another adult. He works with students who are behind on assignments or need extra help in understanding concepts. It would be wonderful to have a mentor like him in every classroom because of the impact he makes – Teacher from the Pottstown Middle School
